“…but I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.” -1Cor 9:27
Let’s remember that you are a spiritual being living in a natural body, that you will shed one day for a glorified body. Your body is the current vehicle you move around in to do God’s will on the earth. It is not who you are, and it is only temporary. Like riding a horse, your body is there to serve you. It should not dictate to you where you go, what you eat, how you feel, when you pray, etc.
But your body does have desires of it’s own, and it will try to enslave you if you let it. How about it? Who’s the boss in your life? It helps to remember your body is separate from your spirit, and to take a commanding approach with your flesh. I sometimes speak to my body in the morning and tell it who’s in charge, and command it to serve me well today, and to yield and submit to my agenda as I serve the Lord. You may have a different approach to tame your flesh, but we should all follow Paul’s example, and have a slave that serves us well as we serve the Lord.
