Dynamite and Sandbags

explosionHave you ever been near an explosion? I have, and it wasn’t that bad. A few years ago while living in India, a road crew was working on the road outside our house.

I went out to get some photos of the men beating on these huge rocks with a small hammer only to find they were stuffing dirt into a small hole where a long fuse was sticking out.

I watched in amazement as they piled sand bags around this rock in the ditch, just a few feet from traffic, and lit the fuse. I stepped back just a bit with the rest of the workers and waited, not knowing quite what to expect… Then BOOM! There was a short dull thud that shook the ground and rocked the sand bags, sending a cloud of dust into the air. I just stood there for awhile thinking, “This sure is a different world over here.”

What’s my point? If you find yourself in an explosive situation and you cover it with enough sand bags of love, You can minimize the harm. You might not keep it from exploding, but you can at least contain the damage, and prevent others from being hurt.

-Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.
-Proverbs 17:9 He who covers over an offence promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
