I had traveled almost 10,000 miles. As soon as I reached my friend, I plunked down to have some hot Indian tea. She was in deep conflict and there was no easy way forward. Attempting to wrap some perspective around it, I said, “Did you know there’s a one-way ticket stuffed at the bottom of your purse? And that your destination to heaven is secure?” She laughed, at least for a minute. And we began chipping away at the problems in prayer.
That’s what me, Alyssa and Nora have been doing for you – chipping away at your prayer burdens before the Lord. During prayer we’ve also been listening on your behalf too.
Even if you didn’t send in any personal prayer requests, you still received prayer. So, be sure to glance over our prayer notes below in case the Lord has a message for you.
I don’t know if you remember, “Prayer Guy.” It was a voice that my late husband Wayne used when he’d say funny and cheeky things about prayer. One of the things Prayer Guy said is, “Prayer only works when you pray.” Can you say “amen” to that?
The truth is, often prayer is the only way for you & I to wrap some perspective around our lives, because prayer is about connection with the Living One. And in that connection He gave us this amazing promise, “The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day.” (Proverbs 4:18) No matter what is happening NOW, our future is going to be bright. And as Corrie Ten Boom reminded us, it’s never a mistake to heave the weight of the unknown future into His hands. Let’s do that in 2014.
In His love and mine,
Here are the prayer insights for YOU:
From Kathleen D.
As I was praying for you, the Lord highlighted a handful of bible verses:
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” -James 5:16
“The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” -Deuteronomy 28:13
“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.
The Lord will accomplish what concerns me;
Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” -Psalm 138:7-8
“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.
Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.” -Isaiah 26:3-4
As I prayed over your requests, I got the impression that it would be very helpful for some of you to add a little fasting to your prayers. Some of you are in quite the prayer battle over individuals and circumstances, and often just a little fasting, say for one day, or one meal a day for a few days, brings a powerful result. Fasting was a part of the New Testament church. You will see it when they had to make important decisions and when they needed a breakthrough for regions, circumstances and individuals.
You & I ARE in a spiritual battle, therefore remember too:
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” -Ephesians 6:11-13
In my recent Editorial I encouraged you to go through the “Journey of Forgiveness” devotional. That’s available to you here at Prayercentral. Forgiveness not only helps you navigate the rough spots of your life but it’s also required for heart maintenance. Why not let the Lord minister to you by going through this powerful daily devotional:
Asking for God’s richest blessings to be manifested over you and through you in a special way in 2014!
From Nora B.
As I prayed for the needs of our Prayercentral partners, I asked God to heal, provide, reconcile and save. The more I prayed, the more I was impressed by the Holy Spirit that how He wanted to work was through the Body of Christ. That in community and connectedness, people will find the strength needed to walk through their struggles and grow into maturity in Christ. “Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become, in every respect, the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” -Ephesians 4:15-16
In the midst of suffering and trials, it’s very tempting to isolate and hide from the very thing that was meant to give us strength: fellowship and the love of our brothers and sisters. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul strongly challenges us to rely on one another, and resist the temptation to withdraw from the body. Every part of the body matters, and if one part decides it doesn’t want to be a functioning part, the rest of the body will suffer because of it. Furthermore, to be separated from the “body,” an organ or limb will die. Therefore, the Lord challenges us to come out of hiding and isolation to find freedom and the love we need that gives us the courage to take risks for the Kingdom. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” -1 John 1:7
We must love what Christ loves: His Bride. In all of her frailties and faults, He sees something in her that is worth giving everything up for. “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” -Hebrews 10:23-25
From Alyssa D.
“O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God. Selah. But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” -Psalm 3
In prayer, the Lord emphasized to me how he is the “lifter of our heads.” Many times we find ourselves down, depressed and stuck staring at our feet, wondering where these foggy paths will ever lead. Like a good Father, I see him reaching towards you and pulling up your chin, out of that critical inward stare, and towards the light of His face. I’m reminded of the Apostle Paul saying “By the grace of God, I am what I am.” (1 Cor 15:10) Remember – God is the judge of you, not you, so be kind to yourself. Receive His love and acceptance.
“It is not good for man to be alone.” -Genesis 2:18
“God sets the lonely in families…” -Psalm 68:8
From the beginning, God has understood the issue of human loneliness, and the truth is that you are NOT alone. He knows, He sees and there are people in your life that He has placed there to be a source of comfort, wisdom and joy. I also feel like He wants us to increase our awareness of people around us who may be lonely – that one friend who doesn’t quite fit in, the older neighbor who lost a spouse, a child who is struggling, etc.
“The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.” -Songs of Solomon 2:7
Stay expectant! Stay attentive! You know His voice, and can trust it. Sometimes we can’t see over the mountain in front of us, but when we hear His still small voice of encouragement we gain the strength to believe in His seen and unseen work in our lives.
