Did You Do Your Homework?

Unhappy little girl studying at the desk

I’m sending you a big hug and releasing a prayer of blessing over YOU right now.

If you ask my daughters they will tell you that I talk a lot about, “Doing your homework.” You know that getting homework done brings a very real tension because we’d rather play outside, watch t.v. or even scrub the toilet! Sometimes anything sounds better than homework.

However, I’m not talking about schoolwork here, but there is a similarity in how sometimes we would rather avoid our “personal” homework; stuff that needs to be dealt with…looked at…released.

Remember – you and I have real homework to stay on top of. Don’t forget to keep short accounts, and confront issues of anger, disappointment and frustration.

Why is this important? Because all of these things affect YOU. They affect your health, your outlook, and the people you are doing life with. In reality, homework is non-negotiable, which means you can’t get out of it! But the good news is, if you do your homework you feel:

Relieved. Light. Freed up. Released.

As you know, I travel a lot. The airlines even gives me special attention because I spend so much time with them. One thing I’ve gleaned as a road warrior is to travel light. Don’t take anything with you that you don’t absolutely need. In other words, don’t lug, tug or haul anything extra.

What about you? Losing some of our luggage can be a good thing, right? God wants to free you up so you can have more joy on your journey.

This is why I wrote, “Journey of Forgiveness.” And it’s also the reason we rewrote the book into a daily devotional format. It’s a tool for you, that’s guaranteed to empower you towards more freedom.

One last quote for you:

“Jesus…says, ‘Let go of your complaints, forgive those who loved you poorly, step over your feelings of being rejected, and have the courage to trust that you won’t fall into an abyss of nothingness but into the safe embrace of a God whose love will heal all your wounds.” ― Henri J.M. Nouwen

In His love and mine,
