Pray with A.C.T.S.

acts-crossA.C.T.S. is an easy way to remember key elements of prayer. It’s simply prayer in four parts:

Adoration“Praise be to God!” -Psalms 68:35
Tell God how much you appreciate Him. Express your love for Him. Praise His power and majesty. This is a great way to begin your prayer time. Sometimes I watch the sun rise, and praise God for the beauty of His creation. You should never run out of praise. “How awesome are your deeds!” -Psalms 66:3

Confession“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1:9
Tell Him where you have fallen short. Be specific. I thank Him for the forgiveness I have in Christ, and ask for help and strength to turn away from future temptations.

Thanksgiving – Always “glorify him with thanksgiving” -Psalms 69:30
You have plenty of reasons to be thankful. Thank God for His love, His faithfulness, His patience and a million other things. Express gratitude for what He’s doing in your life. Thank Jesus for dying on the cross for you. Thank the Holy Spirit for indwelling you, and never leaving. Thank Him for being your conscience, your counselor and that “still small voice.”

Supplication“Make your requests known to God.” -Philippians 4:6
Tell God what you want, no matter how small it seems to you. Do you really think any of your requests are big to God the Creator? You should have lots of intercessory prayer here. Remember: As a Promise Keeper, you are committed to pray for your pastor and your church every day.

Thank You for this information. I am grateful to receive this knowledge because so often I hear others pray the wrong way. I think this is because they have never been taught that prayer to God is not all about themselves. The Holy Bible teaches that we should pray to God for others as well as ourselves.

I realize my thoughts are incoherent but I thank you for listening.

I pray that God will continue to bless your ministry to further advance the Word of God.

Our pastor wants us in our Sunday School class to focus on prayer. The ACTS model fits like a glove.Do you have an ACTS poster I could buy to place on my classroom wall. If so it would be a great teaching aid. Please let me know. If not may I have your approval to make one very similar myself? Please let me know. Thanks

John, Look at the examples more closely. Praising God is expressing His greatness. Adoration is the only one that actually does this. Confessing is admitting your weakness and failure to live according to His will. Thanksgiving is voicing your gratitude for the blessings you have received. Supplication is asking Him to help you achieve your needs and follow His will.

As a Christian, one would also include “in the name of Jesus Christ” or some other form of recognition of Jesus as God’s son.

However, this form can be used by Jews and Muslims just as well and they probably would not include Jesus name. I’m not that familiar with Buddhism or Hinduism, but I would think the form could also be adapted for their use.

    Hope this helps.

An important element is missing. Include the sentence, “I ask this in Jesus’s name” or “through Your Son, Jesus Christ.” Jesus said in John 16:23, “…I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” In St. Paul’s letter to the Colossians, chapter 3, verse 17,”And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

For some reason I always feel I don’t know how to pray, Praying with A.C.T.S. has helped me to put my thoughts in order. I thank God for all the blessings He gives me daily, I don’t want to let Him down. Lord be with me throughout this day, hold my hand and guide me through His path. I lift my family up to the Lord that thhey come back to serve Him. Pray for our church, our pastor is leaving for medical reasons, so we are going to start looking for another pastor.

Please pray that the Lord would deliver his people from evil men; That the Lord would preserve his people from violent men, who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. Please pray and intercede without ceasing that God’s will be done in the lives of the world’s leaders and for our leaders to seek God and listen to Him. Pray that they would be surrounded by godly counsel and, that our leadership would personally know God and the salvation found through faith in Jesus Christ alone. That we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. God can turn the hearts of kings. Earnestly pray that the people of America and it’s leaders will humble themselves and seek the Lords face and turn from their wicked ways. Pray that the Lord would hear from heaven and forgive our countries sins and heal our land. God Bless America Pray that the Lord would grant peace in America, that we may lie down and no one will make us afraid. That the Lord would remove wild beasts from the land, and that the sword will not pass through our country and that President Trump along with our leaders be filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might to declare the sins of Gods people. Please pray that the Lord would pour out his spirit on his servants, throughout the world both men and women. Pray for the peace of Israel. In Jesus Name Amen.
