In Remembrance of 9/11
“We do not make requests of you because we are righteous,
but because of your great mercy.”
Lord Jesus, we thank You for Your continual mercy towards us and for loving us while we were still dead in our sins. We praise you for rescuing us when we had no strength or ability to rescue ourselves. And it’s in this great mercy that we stand on behalf of our nation and ask that You protect us from those who would cause destruction and harm.
We bless those in authority who watch over our nation’s borders. Lord God, give them wisdom and revelation to uncover the plots of the enemy. Grant President Obama, the military, the national guard, and local police insight and strategies for protecting citizens.
We acknowledge that we are not saved by the size of our army, but through hope in Your unfailing love and truth. We ask that You would remember the prayers of your people throughout our nation’s history. We add our prayers for repentance, deliverance, and vision for Your calling on the United States. May we honor You with our wealth and with our lives.
Forgive us for worshipping at the altar of material gain and human knowledge, thinking this would give us security and blessing. Father, it has failed us. We come to You now and ask that You refresh us anew with the knowledge of Your son and a revelation of Your truth.
We proclaim Your purposes for the United States: to proclaim liberty, and to bless the oppressed and afflicted throughout the world.
We wait in hope for YOU, Lord! YOU are our help and our shield.
In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
Sword of the Word, Verses for you to use:
“No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,
On those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.”
-Psalm 33:16-18, 20
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” -Proverbs 14:34
“But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.”
“My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.” -John 17:15
“Pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
-2 Thessalonians 3:2-4
