“May all kings bow down to him
and all nations serve him.
For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.
He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death.
He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.”
An estimated three million people have fled across Syria’s borders to escape the civil war (about one million of them are children.) It has become one of the largest forced migrations since World War Two.
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”
Prayer for Syria:
Beloved Savior, only YOU have the power and understanding to navigate this great need in Syria and the surrounding regions. And yet, You invite us into partnership with You in intercession and specific acts of obedience. So, we give You our mustard seed of faith and whatever else we have in our hands and ask that You bring about deliverance, salvation, and safety for these precious people.
We bless all those who are traveling through dangerous territory with Your protection and peace. We release a spirit of cooperation, peace, and provision for those living in refugee camps. We thank You for the countries who are taking them in and pray for wisdom as they seek to help these refugees. We pray that You give the government leaders discernment as to who to let in their country, and drive away those who are coming into a country only to perpetuate violence.
We pray for righteousness and unity among the nations who are trying to bring stability to Syria. Again, we ask for Your wisdom to be revealed for a lasting solution to this war.
For all those who cry out in their suffering, we pray for a revelation of Your love through Jesus Christ and that these three million people will experience salvation and rebirth. Only YOU can bring life and peace out of tragedy, and we know that You will fulfill Your promise: “To take pity on the weak and needy and save them from death” (Psalm 72:11-14). We praise You for hearing us and thank You for allowing us to join You in Your work of intercession and peace.
In the might name of Jesus we pray, amen.
