“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” -1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
Someone once said, “Put two believers in a room, and you will get three opinions.” Opinions can be good but they should never be more important than showing love to one another. There was a mighty man of God who gave his life in India, and he tells a story on himself.
Praying John Hyde is known around the world for his powerful intercessions. He wrote about a time when God rebuked him for his lack of love during prayer. Praying Hyde reported. “I was much disturbed about a pastor in the region. He had become lukewarm and his life was a bad example to others. One evening I thought I should bring this pastor before the Lord. Praying, ‘Lord, you know what a backslider Pastor Jamin has become. How he is dry to spiritual things. How much of a compromiser he has become with Your Word…’ ” Suddenly the Lord interrupted saying, “John Hyde, the man belongs to Me, and he who touches him touches the apple of My eye.”
Praying Hyde repented for his unkind prayers and immediately began asking for every blessing he could name to be stacked upon this fellow. Miles away, at the same time Hyde prayed, a lukewarm pastor was gripped by the fire of God, never to be the same again. God convicted John Hyde of being unloving in his attitude. When Pastor John humbled himself and prayed with real love, then divine power was released that changed everything.
Your prayers can bring revival and release divine blessing in the lives of your fellow believers too. Below are some prayers you can use as a guide to begin releasing God’s power into your church. Let the Holy Spirit inspire you with other scriptures and thoughts as you pray for His love to pour down like the rain.
Prayer for a Believer who you have forgiven:
“Lord, I thank You that I can forgive _____________ because You have forgiven me, and helped me. Now I ask for your generous blessing to come into ____________’s life, keep them as the ‘apple of Your eye, hide them under the shadow of Thy wings.’ I speak Your word, ‘Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace always, in everything. The Lord be with you,’ and I thank You that You will answer my prayer of blessing. That You will grant resources, safety, health and peace in all relationships. May Your name be magnified through this person and Your kingdom extended. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
Prayer for your Pastor:
“Lord, You are the Good Shepherd, and I ask You to give fresh wisdom and strength to my Pastor. I thank you for all his hard work and his desire to shepherd your flock on the earth. Grant him inspiration and vision. Protect and bless him and his whole family. Lord I speak Your Word, ‘Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.’ (Hebrews 13:17) Lord, I ask you to help us be a loving congregation, so we do not cause pastor too much trouble. Help members in the church to give of their time and resources freely so they can build your kingdom and lift up pastor’s arms. Remind me to pray for him at other times, so I can be a blessing to You Lord and to my pastor. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Prayer for Church Elders:
“Lord I thank you for our church elders, and their dedication to you. I ask that, the nearness of God would be their good and I declare Your word that says, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ May You grant them wisdom in all the many decisions they must take. Bless them in their prayer times, and give them courage, strength, and good health. I thank You for each of them and I ask that You would encompass then behind and before, and give them peace.”
Prayer for Church Members:
“Lord I am grateful for my Christian family, and I thank You for the body of Christ. I am thankful to have a place to come worship and learn of You. I ask you to bless my church family with greater knowledge of ‘To know the height, depth, width and breadth of Your love.’ I ask that many healings and deliverance from evil would take place in my church, and that many who have not tasted the goodness of God would come and receive a blessing among my church family. Thank You Lord for Your faithful answers. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
