“Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you.” -Luke 10:19
What is it?
The word, “Confront” means to exercise the authority Christ has given His followers to overcome evil forces that are opposed to His will.
Only Christians have the authority to resist the spiritual forces of darkness. The bible says, “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” -1 John 3:8 Confronting is standing against the enemies of God for the purpose of setting the captives free.
Once you know God’s heart and will, through abiding and believing, you are ready to stand as His representative and apply His authority. The scriptures say, “The heavens are the heavens of the Lord but the earth He has given to the sons of men.” -Psalms 115:1 Though there is opposition, you are still to move ahead by His leading. “To execute on them the judgment written; This is an honor for all His godly ones…” -Psalms 149:9 Jesus wants you to have confidence as you exercise your God given authority.
Where does it come from? Dwelling in God’s presence. “He who dwells in the presence of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” -Psalms 91:1 When you are in the shadow of God, you are equipped and compelled to confront evil. David slew Goliath because Goliath insulted God, his best friend. (story in 1 Samuel 17)
Trusting God for the victory. Joshua went up against Jericho, because He trusted God’s word to him, and believed that God would give the victory. (story in Joshua chapters 1-6) Obeying God in faith. Gideon overcame fear to step out in obedience, and tear down the altar of Baal. (story in Judges chapters 6-7)
What does it look like? Zeal for God, intolerance of evil, confidence to confront darkness. Confronting causes you to stand firm in the face of temptation, disappointment, and opposition. It makes you hate evil and accept God’s enemies as your own.
What does it accomplish? Releases the power of God and the angels of heaven to intervene into the affairs of men. Enforces the authority of Christ’s victory on the cross and extends the Kingdom of God. Denies the devil access and releases the power of God to set the captives free. Jesus said, “Upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not overpower it.” -Matthew 16:18
What are the obstacles? Unconfessed sin, unbelief, uncertainty of God’s will, ignorance of God’s word.
