“For he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
What is it?
The bible word, ‘Believe’ means “to be persuaded; to place confidence in the Word and character of God.” Believing is your wholehearted commitment to God’s character and His mighty bible promises. As a Christian you are called to rise above the natural circumstances of life, and live by the promises of God.
Just as Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water when Jesus called him, (story in Matthew 14:25-33), you are to walk by faith and not by sight. As you allow the word of God to become your standard for living, you will find the courage you need to step beyond the natural and do exploits for God.
Where does it come from? Hearing the Word of God. “So faith [comes] from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17
Trusting God’s character. Upholding God’s character above all your trials, and circumstances. “He plans to give you a future and a hope and not for your calamity.” Jeremiah 29:11
Obeying a commitment to go, speak, and do, whatever God shows you. “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life… ” John 3:36
What does it look like? Courage, Integrity, Steadfastness Believing makes you bold in the face of challenges. It keeps you up when the waves of life press you down. It lifts up and honors God even in the midst of difficulty. It inspires and encourages others to walk with God.
What does it accomplish? Believing causes you to live above what you can see in the natural. It enables you to move forward when there seems to be no path ahead. It keeps you from fear and despair. It gives you the courage to “walk on the water” (Matthew 14) or “confront Goliath”. (1 Samuel 17) Believing helps the ordinary person to do impossible things for God. “The people who know their God will be strong and do exploits.” -Daniel 11:32
What are the obstacles? Being caught up in the things of this world; fear of man; looking at your circumstances.
